Carlos
Villarreal was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. He spent his childhood both in Corpus Christi and Monterrey, Mexico,
before eventually moving to El Paso and studying metallurgical
engineering. He graduated from the
University of Texas School of Law in 1986 and began his legal career with Hunt,
Hermansen, McKibben & Barger in Corpus Christi. He developed an interest in appellate work
during those early years and took leave from the firm to earn an LL.M. from
Harvard Law School. Upon his return to
the firm, he continued his appellate practice and became board-certified in
Civil Appellate Law in 1992. He had
repeated success at the Supreme Court of Texas, and more than 100 Texas
appellate opinions bear his name. He
also earned distinction as part of UT School of Law’s Distinguished Minority
Alumni Portrait Collection, and an endowed scholarship at the law school bears
his name. |
