The Pro Bono Committee has helped successfully launch pro bono appeals programs with the Texas Supreme Court, the First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals in Houston, the Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth, the Third Court of Appeals in Austin and supports the Fifth Court of Appeals' excellent program in Dallas operated through the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program ("DVAP"). The committee also administers an ad hoc pro bono program for Fifth Circuit appeals and appeals pending in other Texas judicial districts. Through these programs, we often work with the courts, attorneys and parties to identify and place potential pro bono appeals with members of the section who have volunteered to handle appeals. The committee is always exploring the potential formal expansion of the pro bono program. The committee is also always looking for volunteers -- whether to handle an appeal or to provide periodic suggestions to another pro bono attorney handling an appeal.
