Hon. Clarence Guittard

Clarence Guittard, born in Waco, graduated cum laude from Baylor University Law School in 1940. After graduation, he served with the United States Army from 1943-44. He then began his legal career at Guittard & Hyden, P.C., followed by his work as a district court judge in Dallas County and then Chief Justice of the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas. Once he retired from the bench, he continued his career as a mediator. Chief Justice Guittard participated in many bar associations and committees. He contributed to the Supreme Court Advisory Committee for many decades, as well as to the State Bar Pattern Jury Charge Committee and the Judicial Qualifications Commission. He was a member of the Texas Bar Foundation and the American Bar Association. He was elected as secretary-treasurer of the judicial section of the State Bar of Texas, vice-president of the Dallas Bar Association, and a board of director of the American Judicature Society.
